Frequently Asked Questions
Payout = stake × decimal odds. Your profit is the payout minus your original stake — the stake itself is returned as part of the payout if you win.
For positive American odds (e.g. +150): decimal = 1 + (odds ÷ 100). For negative American odds (e.g. -150): decimal = 1 + (100 ÷ |odds|).
Decimal = 1 + (numerator ÷ denominator). For example, 5/2 fractional odds = 1 + 2.5 = 3.5 decimal odds.
Payout is the total amount you receive if you win, including your original stake back. Profit is just your winnings — payout minus your stake. Sportsbooks usually advertise 'odds' based on payout, but bettors often care most about profit.
EV = (your true win probability × profit if you win) − (loss probability × stake). It's positive only if your own estimate of the true win probability is higher than the odds' implied probability — meaning the bet is priced in your favor over the long run, not just on this one outcome.
