Calculate gross and net revenue from units sold and price

Frequently Asked Questions

Total revenue = number of units sold × price per unit. This is your gross revenue before subtracting any discounts, returns, or the cost of the goods themselves — it's a measure of total sales, not profit.
No — total revenue is the total money brought in from sales, before subtracting costs like production, overhead, and taxes. Profit (net income) is what remains after all expenses are subtracted from revenue.
Discounts reduce the effective price per unit, and returns subtract the value of goods sent back by customers. Net revenue = gross revenue − discounts − returns, giving a more accurate picture of money actually retained from sales.
Total revenue is the full amount from all units sold combined. Average revenue (or average revenue per unit) is total revenue divided by the number of units, which just gets you back to the price per unit in a simple single-price scenario.
