HP = (torque in lb-ft × RPM) ÷ 5252. That constant, 5252, is where torque (lb-ft) and horsepower are always numerically equal on a dyno chart.
It's a mathematical artifact of unit conversion (1 hp = 33,000 ft-lb/min), not a mechanical property. Below 5252 rpm, torque numerically exceeds horsepower; above it, horsepower exceeds torque.
It's a useful ballpark (within roughly 10-20%), but real power depends on drivetrain losses, tire grip, and launch technique, so treat it as an estimate rather than a dyno-accurate figure.
Mechanical horsepower is 745.7 watts (the US standard). Metric horsepower (PS/CV), common in European specs, is 735.5 watts — about 1.4% smaller.
