Frequently Asked Questions
No. The PFT (Physical Fitness Test) measures pull-ups or push-ups, a plank hold, and a 3-mile run. The CFT (Combat Fitness Test) is a separate, also 300-point test that measures a Movement to Contact sprint, an Ammunition Can Lift, and a Maneuver Under Fire course. Both are required, but they are scored and reported separately.
The plank is scored on a single gender-neutral, age-neutral scale: 1:10 (70 seconds) earns the minimum passing score of 40 points, and 3:45 (225 seconds) or longer earns the maximum 100 points, with points awarded proportionally in between.
Yes. Pull-ups can earn the full 100 points, but push-ups are capped at 70 points maximum — even a perfect push-up score cannot exceed 70 points toward your total, meaning a Marine using push-ups has a maximum possible total of 270 rather than 300.
Effective January 1, 2026, Marines in combat-arms MOSs (infantry, artillery, reconnaissance, etc.) are scored on a sex-neutral basis: both male and female Marines in these roles use the same male-normed scoring tables and must reach a minimum of 210 points (70% of 300) to pass. Marines outside combat-arms MOSs continue to use the traditional sex- and age-normed tables with the 1st/2nd/3rd class system.
Under the traditional (non-combat-arms) scoring system: 1st Class is 235–300 points, 2nd Class is 200–234, 3rd Class is 150–199, and below 150 total (or below 40 in any single event) is a failure.
Scores are estimated from publicly published USMC PFT standards and are intended for training reference only. Official scores are determined using the current MCO 6100.13A scoring tables — always verify with your unit's official scoring before or during an actual test.
