Pool Chlorine Calculator

For routine maintenance, 1-3 ppm free chlorine (FC) is standard. For shocking a pool (to clear algae or after heavy use), the target is typically 10-20 ppm.

Household bleach is typically 8.25% sodium hypochlorite (some are 6% or 10%). Pool-specific liquid chlorine is usually 10-12.5%. Check your product label for the exact percentage — using the wrong strength will throw off the dose significantly.

Volume (gallons) = length × width × average depth × 7.5 for a rectangular pool. Many pool volume calculators and pool builder spec sheets also list this directly.

This calculator is built for liquid chlorine (sodium hypochlorite). Granular and tablet products have different available-chlorine percentages, so follow the manufacturer's dosing instructions for those instead.
